Acey Ducey
Acey Ducey
Acey-Deucey is similar to backgammon, using the same board, game pieces and dice except that each players’ 15 pieces begin on the board. The initial play is far different from that of a standard backgammon game. The play passes back and forth with each player rolling the dice and no piece may be moved until either both dice reveal the same number or a roll of one '1' and one '2.' (known as Acey-Deucey). If doubles are rolled, the player may move his/her piece a total of 4 times, with each move corresponding with the rolled amount (a roll of two sixes will result in four moves of six). Moving from the starting position counts as one space.
In Acey-Deucey, no piece on the board may be moved until all of a player’s pieces have been moved from the starting position. After rolling doubles, the player takes another turn. When Acey-Deucey is rolled, a player may move one piece '1' space, one piece '2' spaces, as well as an additional four moves of a number to be chosen by the player. In other words, a '1', a '2', and doubles of choice. After rolling Acey-Deucey another turn is taken by the player.
While Acey-Ducey is a generally a home-based game, the term does apply to casino play. In poker, Acey-Ducey refers to two pairs, aces and deuces. In hold 'em games, an A and a 2, as a player's first two cards is referred to as Acey-Ducey.
In some casinos, the game Acey Ducey, also known as Red Dog, is a non-poker card game, in which players bet that a third card in succession will fall in rank between the first two, which are dealt face up before the wager is placed.
