Slot Playing Strategy
Non-video slot machines spin and stop based on pre-determined randomly generated number combination, making it nearly impossible to have any true strategy to win the game. By all accounts, the game is based purely on luck.
Although people will tell you otherwise, winning on a slot machine is usually the result of luck and the following statements are pure myth:
- Slot machines stop on any possible set of stops with equal probability: This is incorrect, some stops and combinations are actually more likely than others.
- Slot machines are programmed to go through a cycle of payoffs. Although the cycle can span thousands of spins, once it reaches the end the outcomes repeat themselves in the same order as the last cycle: This is the biggest myth of all. Every cycle is random and independents.
- Slot machines are programmed to pay off a particular percentage of money bet. Therefore, after a jackpot is hit the machine will balance itself. When no jackpot has been hit for a long time, it is more likely to payoff: The only part of this statement is that slot machines are designed to pay off a particular percentage. However, the laws of probability dictate that the longer the machine is played the closer it will come to its target payoff.
- Hot/cold coins are more likely to yield good returns: Wrong! The temperature of the coin means nothing.
- Machines pay more if a “player” or “comp” card is not used: The odds are the same whether using a player’s club card, coins or a ticket.
If I use a “player” or “comp” card the casino will report my winnings to the IRS: Regardless of the method you use to play the machine, the casino will report your individual winnings to the IRS if you win a certain amount.
